Heal’n With the 12 Steps Program
Many who suffer from alcohol and drug dependency devote themselves to the 12 Steps Program for rehabilitation and recovery. The Program’s spiritual approach and unique methods to increase self-awareness have led many sufferers to heal from their fixations. However, the steps are not just limited to those who fall victim to drug addiction and alcohol abuse. The 12 Steps Program can also benefit those working through heartbreak, grief & depression.
My Battle With the 12 Steps Program
In the past, I heard about the 12 steps many times before but never paid much attention to them because I did not have an issue with alcohol or drugs. But, following my self-healing season, the mention of the 12 Steps kept stalking me. It appeared in my Google searches when I used the computer, showed up in the movies I watched, and was spoken to me by others. I felt haunted by them, so I took a look. I was shocked to see that I unknowingly went through the same process that the 12 Steps Program promotes when I was healing my broken heart. Is that a coincidence, or would it be safe to say that the steps work?
Step 12: After having your spiritual awakening because of carrying out these steps, relay to others and continue the steps along your journey.
Heal’n Again and Again Through the 12 Steps Program
As the Program ensures, I experienced a spiritual awakening after going through all the steps! But finishing the 12th step did not automatically fix my problem(s) for good. I am still living a life in recovery. I am continually mindful of my thoughts, actions, and behaviors and self-reflect repeatedly. And I am constantly looking for ways to nurture my soul.
Part two of the 12th step requires you to pass on your experience of success. Somehow, this step has become my passion. My spiritual awakening was so bizarre that I could not keep it to myself! I first shared the happenings with friends and family. They all thought I was crazy. But I did not stop there. I self-published my private journal into a book that revealed the unexplainable events of my introduction to Spirit.
Most would think that a spiritual solution would create happiness and improve life. Sadly, I had a tough time letting go of the old me and transforming into my better version. God was very creative with cleansing my heart and rebuilding my mental makeup. And it is all recorded in my memoir! After I published my book, I started a blog to share my story and current self-healing practices to inspire those in need. I trust that the divine will lead those seeking help to my works.
Remember For Your Heal’n
Once you commit to your recovery, it is a lifelong obligation. Life will constantly stir up struggles, and it is your responsibility to again and again go through the steps to continue to come out on top. Put your Lord & Savior first in all your endeavors, and keep pressing down your right path.
Do not lose sight of your responsibility to give away your story of triumph. You do not have to do the same things I did, but there are many ways to influence someone who needs help. Here are a few suggestions:
- Be a mentor to someone who needs support.
- Volunteer as a Speaker (share your story with a small audience).
- Become a counselor (professionally advise others).
- Create a podcast to talk about your story.
- Start a YouTube channel (share your story by uploading videos).
- Join a support group (speak with others who share your pain).
Remember, you are helping others who are going through what you have overcome, and to continue your healing journey, you need them!
