The Triple Warmer Meridian

Triple Warmer Meridian – Sadness & Joy

The Meridian: This is the only meridian that does not associate with an organ. It communicates and coordinates energy between all of the meridians to maintain health. The meridian’s main purpose is to manage our body’s fluids ( blood, sweat, saliva, urine, tears etc.) and ensures that our body fluids are transformed, transported and excreted properly.

It also acts like a thermostat, distributing the life force energy and fluids, warming the body, and managing heat production. Imbalances in the Triple Burner can lead to various health issues, such as digestive problems, respiratory issues, or urinary disturbances.

The Meridian is divided into three different burners that serve the upper, middle and lower torso.

  1. Upper Burner: The Upper Burner corresponds to the area between the solar plexus and the clavicle and it controls intake of food, water and oxygen. When imbalanced our defenses are broken down leaving us susceptible to cold, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, temperature and body aches.
  2. Middle Burner: The Middle Burner corresponds to the area between the solar plexus and the navel and its in charge of digestion and absorption for the body to use. When out of balance, digestive issues may arise like bloating, nausea or heartburn.
  3. The Lower Burner: The Lower Burner corresponds to the area between the navel and the pubic bone and it handles the elimination of waste. When out of balance problems with water retention, urination, and loss of bladder control may be present.

The three burners support each other. The total health of the body is in harmony when the three are balanced.

Location: Runs from the tip of the ring finger up the center of the back of the arm. Up the side of the neck and around the ear. Ends at the out tip of the eyebrow.

Physical Imbalance: Imbalances in the Triple Burner can lead to various health issues, such as digestive problems, respiratory issues, urinary disturbances, weak immune system, metabolic problems, and lower leg edema.

When the body does not properly mange its fluids, dampness and phlegm may occur. Dampness develops when there is too much moisture or water trapped in the body. Over time, it can become more gluey and transform into a thicker kind of dampness known as phlegm. Phlegm is mucus your body produces due to an irritation or infection.

Too much dampness and phlegm can lead to major illness such as obesity, cysts/growths/tumors and coronary heart disease. Some common symptoms of dampness or phlegm are nausea, vomiting, headache, vertigo or chest pain.

Emotional Imbalance: Difficulty with change.

How to Balance

*Learn to accept what has happened. Talk with someone you trust. Give yourself time to process. Get plenty of fresh air to improve mental focus, reduce stress and enhance energy levels,  engage in self-care, aerobic exercise, consume plenty of fluids and foods that are fresh, organic, seasonal and whole

Sometimes an illness or situation can cause Triple Warmer to turn on and it ignites the flight, fight or freeze response. Often, The Triple Warmer System is unable to let go, causing the body to stay in a habit of alarm. Therefore, it is beneficial to train the Triple Warmer System to act for your well-being instead of only for your survival.

There are many balancing exercises involving Triple Warmer, and most of them are about calming or relaxing it. When trained, Triple Warmer creates peace and tranquility, a sense of safety and security, and permits well-being to become the standard condition.
