What Are Meridians
Traditional Chinese Medicine believes there is an energy system that flows through the body.
The energy is called Life Force Energy or qi(chee). It is transported through the body by a network of passageways called meridians.
12 major meridians connect to many other subordinate meridians. Together, they create the Meridian System.
Along the meridians are acupuncture points or acupoints. Practitioners apply needles, heat, or pressure to the points to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities.

The Chinese also believe that our meridians, organs, and emotions are in an interactive relationship that influences the flow of the Life Force Energy. So, when the stream of energy becomes clogged or blocked, symptoms and disease become present. Therefore, energy healers try to balance the circulation of the Life Force Energy in the meridians to restore wellness by using acupuncture, diet, herbal therapy, meditation, physical exercise, and massage.
