Kidney Meridian – Fear

The Kidney: The Kidneys are the body’s filter system. It removes waste from the blood and produces urine. The kidney also governs pregnancy, puberty, growth, fertility, menopause, aging and death.

The Meridian: The kidney energy stores the original Life Force Energy and determines our health through the stages of life.  It works with the adrenal and sex glands in both men and women and manages the vital fluids needed to conceive and carry a healthy pregnancy. The kidney meridian also helps to regulate the flow of energy to the brain to form memories and influences the aging process.

Location: Begins on the sole of the foot and runs up the inner leg and central torso. It ends under the collar bone. 

Emotional Imbalance: fear/phobias, self-doubt, feelings of inadequacy, mistrust.

Physical Imbalance:  brittle bones, loose teeth, weak knees, premature aging, hair loss, dark eye circles, fatigue, lower back pain, and decreased sexual desire.

How to Balance

*Balancing the Kidney Meridian can provide many benefits for both physical and emotional health. Some common benefits include increased energetic capacity, improved endurance, deeper sleep, improved emotional stability and healthy hormonal balance.

Acupoint- apply pressure/massage : The are many pressure points in body. This is one example.

Kidney 3

The Kidney 3 is located in the depression between the tip of the medial malleolus and the Achilles tendon. And it is one of the most commonly used points for acupressure for back pain, boost fertility, and overall energy.  

You can stimulate Kidney 3 by massaging the point with gentle, firm pressure for a few minutes. You can either use circular motions or simply hold. Regular stimulation can maintain kidney energy and overall well-being.

Herbal Therapy/Diet:

  • Salty flavored foods – Miso, seaweed and seafood are all good choices for boosting kidney Qi.
  • Kidney-shaped foods – Beans
  • Blue and black foods – Foods like blueberries, blackberries, mulberries and black beans are all beneficial.
  • Nuts and seeds – These relate to fertility and growth which is governed by the kidney meridian. This includes flax, pumpkin, sunflower, black sesame and walnuts.
  • Vegetables – Specifically those that help with water balance or have a diuretic effect, such as asparagus, cucumbers and celery.

Meditation/Mind: There is an old Taoist breathing exercise especially good for boosting kidney Qi. Here’s how it works:

  • Lie on your back with loose fists placed under the back, just below the floating ribs.
  • Then you should breathe into your lower back and feel the muscles pushing into your fists.
  • Keep your fists there until you feel the muscles in your lower back expanding and contracting comfortably.
  • Once you have control of the muscles, remove your fists and breathe into your kidneys for a few minutes.

Physical Exercise: Regular physical activity can enhance blood circulation and improve kidney function. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise each week, such as walking, swimming, or cycling. Exercise helps to eliminate toxins through sweat and supports overall body health, making it easier for your kidneys to do their job.
