The Gallbladder Meridian

Gallbladder Meridian – Frustration & Irritability

The Gallbladder: Stores and releases bile. Bile helps the intestine to digest and absorb the fats we eat.

The Meridian: The meridian is responsible for the health of the muscles, and connective tissue as well as your courage, judgment, and decision making.

Location: Begins at the outer corner of the eye. Zig-Zags over the ear, skull and forehead, then runs down the back of the skull. And on down the side of the body and leg. Ends at the fourth toe.

Physical Imbalance: insomnia, stiff muscles, muscle, body pain, and difficulty making clear decisions, and second guessing yourself.

Emotional Imbalance: Poor self-esteem, poor judgement, timid, difficulty making clear decisions, and second guessing yourself.

How To Balance

On a mental-emotional level, the gallbladder system when balanced, gives us the ability to make decisions, and the courage to see them through.

Acupressure Point/Massage: *The are many pressure points in the body. This is one example.

This acupoint named the Gallbladder 21, is located at the high point of the trapezius muscles between the neck and shoulders. This spot can be tender! You can push straight down on this point or pinch the muscles here to massage it. Use with caution if you are pregnant! It is helpful for neck and shoulder pain, stiffness, headache, cough, fever, and allergy symptoms.

Herbal Therapy/Diet: Because of the gallbladder’s close relationship with the liver, any liver-nourishing foods will benefit the gallbladder as well including: liver, mustard greens, goji berries, beets, broccoli and sprouts. Also, limit fried and greasy foods, as well as dairy, sugar, caffeine or highly acidic foods.

Meditation/Mind: To activate the gall bladder meridian, bring your body into a lunge pose. Remain here for a few moments while breathing deeply and repeating this affirmation:

  • I intentionally make wise choices for my highest good.
  • I intentionally make wise choices for my highest good.
  • I intentionally make wise choices for my highest good and I’ll let that go.

Repeat with the legs in swapped positions.

Physical Exercise: Of all the systems in the body, the gallbladder system presumably craves movement the most. The gallbladder meridian will become cranky and painful with lack of movement. So do your best to incorporate some sort of exercise each day.

Stretching enlivens the connective tissue, which the gallbladder system controls. Take a yoga class, or devote some extra time to stretching after your workout. Incorporate stretches that get to the sides of your body, as this is gallbladder meridian territory.
