Praying to the Divine
As an act of faith, many believers engage in the spiritual practice of prayer. It is one of many rituals that one performs to worship the divine. Followers trust that a heavenly force will fulfill their requests. However, there is a margin of curiosity and doubt about how and if prayer works. Why do so many participate without knowing the exact channel of their pleas?
My Battle With Praying to the Divine
Before my spiritual awakening, I occasionally prayed when my life got tough and waited for the results. Based on the outcome of my calls for help, I concluded that the Lord ignored and did not answer my prayers. Because of His silence, I engaged less and tried to find ways to cope and deal with my inner troubles in solitary.
Despite my disbelief, my friends and family reminded me of their stories of triumph. They insisted that I continue to talk with God, gain more patience, and learn to be still to recognize the presence of my divine helpers.
Step 7: Ask God to remove our shortcomings.
Heal’n My Spiritual Connection By Praying to the Divine
All my efforts to heal on my own failed! The self-help activities that my therapist planned for me, my attempts to reconnect with my ex to alleviate the pain, taking sleeping pills, drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, and repeatedly crying to my friends all failed! The deeper my heart cracked open, the less I could ignore what was going on with me internally. Eventually, I grew more desperate for healing, accepted that I couldn’t do it alone, and decided to give God one more chance.
When I realized I needed divine intervention, I began looking for ways to connect with the ‘spirits of the sky.’ I started to express myself to God more often. I first asked for relief from the pain in the middle of my chest, and then I asked God to unburden me from all the issues that led me to this miserable state so that I would NEVER have to go through it again! The top three weaknesses that I wanted to change were:
1. Neediness (constantly expecting others to accommodate me).
2. Attachment (always looking for love and happiness outside myself).
3. Fear of being alone (attaching to others for support).
My first choice of prayer was Psalm 51:10 – Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. As I continued to pray, I got more specific and, in time, began to see a slight change in my behavior and choices.
Following my spiritual awakening, my intention and purpose for prayer changed. Instead of asking for things that brought temporary happiness, I expressed gratitude for what I had and asked for the resources to help me realize and achieve my soul’s mission. Today, my renewed soul would rate the prayer process from a less self-centered perspective and say that I am appreciative of the relationship I have with my ‘spirit guides’ and I believe in my heart that my prayers to God were heard and responded to in the most unexpected and miraculous ways.
Remember For Your Heal’n
Engaging in prayer helps you to develop a connection with God. It is a great way to express gratitude, show devotion, and ask for clarity. Making this practice a habit offers an opportunity to interact with Him, talk with Him, spend time with Him, and get to know His spirit.
Allowing Him into your life can change your perspective and purpose for living. Offering yourself in the most defenseless and genuine way makes you more accessible to God. He will cleanse and renew your soul and use you as a source to carry out His will. Ironically, spiritualists believe a heart must be broken to allow unconditional love to enter.
