What Are Meridians

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes in an energy system that flows through the human body. The energy is called Life Force Energy or qi(chee). It is transported through the body by a network of passageways called meridians. 12 major meridians connect to many other minor meridians, and together, they create the Meridian System.

Meridians and Our Happiness

The belief system of Traditional Chinese Medicine is that our meridians, internal organs, and emotions are all in an interactive relationship. So, meridians are named after the organ they are energetically connected to. Continually, they work together to maintain our physical and emotional health. However, if the current of Life Force Energy becomes clogged or blocked, imbalances arise that can lead to draining symptoms, distress, or disease.

Activating the Meridians

Along the meridians are acupuncture points, called acupoints for short. They are designated spots on the body where the meridians are closest to the skin. Practitioners and energy healers focus on these specific areas to balance Life Force Energy by using acupuncture (needles), acupressure, tapping, heat, and/or massage. When Life Force Energy is stimulated, it activates the body’s natural healing abilities.
